9:13 pm - this evening was so fantastic

my dad and i failed to complete the sunday crossword, as usual.
we listened to the blues station and made rice krispy treats with peanut butter and chocolate.
then we ate them over a game of scrabble.
i'm really going to miss this.

it's may 17th!
that means,
I AM DONE WITH IB.
no more internal assessments
no more orals
no more two and a half hour tests
(although, i still do prefer IB testing to school)
but at any rate,
YAY!

things have been going oddly lately, with IB testing and whatnot. i'm almost done with the hard part; the last two are nothing to worry about.
besides, now that i'm 17, i am the dancing queen.

the woman next door has a little granddaughter
who is curious
and has a particularly guilty conscience.
she plays in the backyard with little things around the house.
but when grandma comes
she tosses whatever she has over the fence
and into our backyard
because she thinks she is not supposed to have it.
so far we have found
and unopened can of diet pepsi
a blue piece of sidewalk chalk
and two squeaky tennis balls.

3:57 pm - i basically just had the most awesome day.
|
my english oral went well enough, and now I AM DONE. no more freaking out over 61 flashcards written in multicolored pen. i. am. done.
and
i got accepted at mudd :-)
with a full tuition :-D
i'm visiting on the 15th and 16th.
i had better love it.
and finally,
band trip! we leave in like 38 hours.

IB is good for two things.
1) insane amounts of stress
2) wasting paper
that's all i've gotten out of it so far.
but in all seriousness, IB is an excellent method of education. i'm sure i'll realize that later.
so, checklist:
extended essay - CHECK
world lit 1 - CHECK
world lit 2 - CHECK
tok paper - CHECK
hair that is getting way too long - CHECK
the first four will be in the mail come friday. i've copied them all. no more changes. what i have right now will determine my IB score.
the last one will probably remain on my head because i don't have the heart to chop it off.

6:15 pm - my dad....

today my mom made me get a gardasil shot, you know, the HPV vaccination. apparently it's pretty expensive.
we also got the van fixed up yesterday; the battery was being stupid.
so:
at dinner tonight, mom said, "geez anna, we've spent a ton of money on you in the last few days," in her joking/teasing way she says things.
"yeah," said my dad, "we got the van fixed up so you can drive it, and we got you the vaccination so you can..... drive it."
hah.
not anytime soon, thankyouverymuch.

i really enjoyed proctoring the 5th grade MRMI last night; usually i hate doing it, but this time, even though i had 19 little sniffling kids to take care of, it was fun.

i feel really good. i have no idea why. but i'm definitely not complaining.
i hope that feeling doesn't change when i start my homework, haha.
but for the first time in a while, i feel like i can slog through all this work without so much overall pain and suffering. if i can make every day into a day like this one, i'm going to be just fine.

the snow was excellent for packing last night - today, it's too soft and crumbly so i couldn't build a gigantic snowman :( but i did build one yesterday:

9:53 pm - aaah!
|
i drove in the snow for the first time ever today. i was at math team, and it suddenly started snowing like crazy - it took me over half an hour to get home, and everything was hard to see and slippery and it was TERRIFYING!
but then, i went and made a snowman - this is probably the best snow we've ever had. and it's not frozen, like it was in november, so i can actually do stuff with it.
like make snow cones :-D

1:02 pm - my first two words this morning:
|
"hey, cool!" - to nobody but myself - everyone else was asleep or away. which is weird, because i never talk to myself, unless i'm reading shakespeare.
i opened the front door quickly so i could grab the newspaper and dart back inside, out of the wind that i assumed was still tearing across our yard. i hadn't actually looked outside yet, even though i'd been awake for a little over 10 minutes. and there it was: a thin blanket of snow covering the neighbor's rooftop, little patches of it on our grass, and the trees, oh, the trees were beautiful.
i dunno why i noticed the beauty today and not in november. maybe i was more surprised by it this time; the radio, newspaper, and pretty much everyone was talking about the forecast, but i didn't really believe it, at least, i didn't believe we'd get any snow because we never really do. too close to the water or something; i wonder what seahurst park would look like with snow.
but anyways.
it's all melted now.

9:29 pm - some thoughts
|
guided coursework is printing as i type - it feels good to have it finished - at least, finished for IB. the class paper is a whole new walrus to tackle.
cheese-pea is growing, but he's looking a little sparse. i think once he dies, i'll wait til it's warmer to replant him. also, i've discarded my chia alarm clock because it is so annoying.
all that remains from my little tumble down the stairs is a bit of redness on my elbow. it's good to know that some things do heal.
when i'm awake i never feel like sleeping. when i do sleep, i feel like i never want to get up. maybe it's time for me to start running again.
